Governor Jan Brewer appointed Scott A. Smith the Director of the Arizona Department of Administration on December 17, 2010. Previously Scott served as Governor Jan Brewer’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Legislative Affairs. Scott has served in Governor Brewer’s administration since January 2009. Scott is a talented, dedicated public servant with over twenty years experience in Arizona State Government.
Previously Scott served as the Deputy Director for Operations for the Arizona Department of Administration, managing the operational aspects of five ADOA divisions and nearly 500 employees and a budget of $20.5 million. Scott has also previously served as ADOA’s Public Information Officer and Legislative Liaison. Immediately prior to serving as the Deputy Director, Scott was the Director of State Relations for Arizona State University and was responsible for developing and maintaining effective legislative and executive branch relations for the university as the designated public lobbyist. Scott’s public service career began as a staff member of the Arizona House of Representatives. Scott has also served as the Legislative Liaison and Privatization Bureau Administrator for the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from Arizona State University. Scott and his wife Andrea live in Scottsdale with their two daughters. Scott enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and is a rabid fan of ASU’s Sun Devil athletics.
